Fashioning Cuba is a collage series and my absurdist response to a fashion show staged in Havana. My own visit to Cuba showed me a fallen and falling glory: crumbling buildings, roads and infrastructure, lack of individual privacy and personal living space, government issued bags of rationed rice. But here were the scenes I remembered with impeccably dressed models and audience seemingly dropped into place, grossly out of touch with actuality. The exploitative staging contrasted with my own images makes plain the devastating rift between two worlds in one space.
